What To Expect From Chiropractic Care

Beginning the journey of chiropractic care is a big step. Most people will have tried several different types of pain relief once they finally make the decision to try a chiropractor. As you embark on this journey you may not realize that chiropractic treatment is applied in stages. These stages can be compared to scaffolding. One level is dependent upon the level set before it. In order for chiropractic treatment to be as beneficial as possible, each level must be applied fully. When this is done your body will learn how to begin healing itself. These levels are considered the chiropractic plan of care. When you are educated about each of these steps it will make the healing journey much easier.

Relief Care

The first level of chiropractic care is relief care. Most individuals are in pain to some degree when they first walk into a chiropractor’s office, and their primary goal is to feel less pain. Relief care generally consists of 2-3 visits per week for about 4-12 weeks. This can vary depending on your level of pain.

Although the first level of chiropractic care will seem very different to your body, consistency is the key at this stage. Remember that your body is learning something entirely new. The chiropractic team that will be assisting you will do everything they can to make you as comfortable as possible so that you can continue with your plan and have the best long term results.

 Corrective/Restorative Care

The second level of care is corrective/restorative care. This is the phase in which the muscles and other tissues are cared for so that they may begin to heal properly. The level of the chiropractic care plan helps to ensure future injuries are decreased. Most patients will need 4-8 visits per month for about 6-24 months.

Wellness Care

The third level of the chiropractic plan of care is wellness care. You will enter this phase when your body has fully healed. This is considered a maintenance phase. Most patients will only be required to come to the office periodically for adjustments. This will help you to avoid future issues. You may only need to come in 1-4 times per month. The chiropractor will develop a particular long term wellness plan that best works with your lifestyle and needs.
