Chiropractic and Corrective Care

chiropractor showing model of the spine in Murfreesboro, TN

Chiropractic is focused on non-invasive treatments to help patients recover from auto accident injuries, workplace injuries and injuries resulting from medical conditions like degenerative disc disease. A chiropractor implements corrective care through holistic, multi-faceted treatments that work synergistically to optimize recovery. Often, massage therapy, physical therapy, physiotherapy, spinal adjustments, spinal decompression therapy and nutritional counseling are integrated into a patient’s corrective care treatment plan.

Through spinal manipulations, a chiropractor uses gentle pressure to manually realign the spinal discs into proper position. It helps alleviate pain due to discs compressing surrounding nerves. Many patients experience some degree of pain relief after just one adjustment. Depending on the patient’s condition, spinal decompression therapy may be an effective treatment. This procedure takes place on a traction table with a computerized device. Spinal decompression therapy gently stretches the spine to increase the space between spinal discs.

Massage therapy is an ideal complementary therapy for a variety of conditions, including whiplash, muscle strains, soft tissue injuries and herniated discs. With kneading movements, the muscles are relaxed, oxygenation is increased for the nutrient delivery to injured areas to accelerate the healing process and the body’s immune system is boosted. Plus, it’s relaxing and helps reduce stress.

With physical therapy, patients engage in both strengthening and corrective exercises to improve function, mobility and prevent further injury. Physiotherapy includes moist heat therapy, ultrasound, interferential electrical muscle stimulation, cryotherapy and diathermy. All of these therapeutic treatment modalities enhance healing and help reduce pain. Ultrasound utilizes sound waves that penetrate deeply to ramp up healing at a cellular level. Interferential electrical muscle stimulation utilizes a low-electric impulse to help reduce pain and accelerate the body’s natural healing process. With moist heat therapy, the muscles are relaxed and spasms are reduced.

Diathermy is a therapeutic method which uses high frequency currents to relieve pain from back injuries, tendonitis, arthritis, cervical syndrome and sprains. Cryotherapy is a newer therapeutic method based on the principle that cold relieves pain. Liquid nitrogen is used as a cryogen to create the cold.
